A wedding reception in a barn? That’s right! An historically rich, meticulously restored, slice of charm. This idea is not all together new to us, as we have photographed events in barns in the past. But it is an idea whose time has come. Our good friends, Amy and Kirby Briske, think so anyway, and we tend to agree. As does Martha Stewart Wedding magazine, www.marthastewart.com/weddings which featured a wedding, held at The Blue Dress Barn in it’s Fall 2008 issue. Especially, in the countryside setting of Southwest Michigan.Posted by Johnny
Currently Amy and Kirby have two barns dedicated to celebrations, The Blue Dress Barn, in Millburg Michigan, was formerly the historic House of David dairy barn. The Millcreek Barns, in Waterveliet Michigan, has just been completed this spring.
These venues have added to the charm of the area giving southwest Michigan its place on the map for destination weddings. People from all over the country come to the Blue Dress and Millcreek Barns to celebrate in a countryside setting rich with amazing midwestern landscape. From commercially productive vineyards to fresh water beaches, from amazing sand dunes to U-pick apples, Michigan spring, summer and fall can’t be beat.
A big thanks to Mandi Buckland of Element Event Design http://www.elementeventdesign.com who coordinated all of the days events. Everything from the floral design, daisies in Ball jars, to fresh, home baked pies instead of the traditional wedding cake, exploiting the opportunities and resources which compliment the setting.
